Bike Mechanic

Job Description:

Regenesis Cycle York community bike centre offers a wide array of services and community programs, including but not limited to, guided DIY bike repairs, second hand parts and accessories, “Earn-A-Bike program, community group rides. All of these services and programs aim to make “active transportation” more accessible to members of the community through affordable services, educational programming and creating a local cycling community.

We are seeking a bike mechanic who possesses technical skills and has experience working with the community.  The mechanic will be tasked with going through a series of diagnosis and repair activities on the designated bikes, making them road ready through a systemic refurbishing process.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Help in maintaining a warm and welcoming environment for staff members, volunteers and clients

  • Ensure all Community Bike Centre procedures for safety, customer bike handling, and sales are followed 

  • Experience with POS systems is a plus (point of sale)

  • Bike repair skills, including bicycle assembly, inspection, and complete overhaul of customers’ bicycles - must be proficient in both new and older/vintage bicycles

  • Maintain a repair record for all bikes

  • Coordinate and track sales of bikes and bike parts

  • Demonstrate a professional standard of customer service and serve as a professional knowledge resource to customers

  • Remain up-to-date on industry products and trends, and demonstrate knowledge of products

  • Conduct daily operational tasks, including restocking, cleaning and organizing

• Understanding of the organization, its purpose, history, policies and programs

• Represent the organization in a professional and congenial manner in person, in online meetings, in telephone  conversations, and in written correspondence

• Delegation or sharing of duties with others as necessary 

• Other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications:

University degree in a related field (completed or in-progress), supplemented by a minimum of 1 year related experience which demonstrates the competencies noted above and below. Equivalencies to work experience will be considered.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment period;

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the program; and

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
