Free Store

2 students, 10 hours a week (September to November, January to March)

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Set regular hours for each term.  Can be more flexible based on availability.  Have one student staff person open the store and stay inside during those hours.  Additional volunteers can help the student staff person when available.

  2. Put out a couple of permanent sandwich boards pointing towards the free store [one-time]

  3. Put out a sandwich board in front of the free store (as it can be easily missed) everytime it is opened (and ensure it is returned inside when closed)

  4. Ensure the free store is well-kept, and restocked with items from storage.

  5. Should the free store start running low on items, start a donation drive and place large “gaylord boxes” around campus to collect donations.  Donation drive should target professors, students and university staff - both with emails to their departments, and with posters.  Ensure posters go on on floors and in buildings with offices as well.  You can ask the front desk folks to put up a poster in the coffee break room and mailroom of their department. Also reach out online on Facebook groups like Bunz or Free Stuff Toronto, or on websites like Freecycle. Arrange pick-up if a large amount of donations or convenient for someone to pick up, otherwise they can drop off.

  6. Ensure nothing belonging to Regenesis gets mixed up or taken from the free store.

  7. Ensure someone can fill in if someone calls in sick.

  8. To further promote the free store, have the free store attend the campus farmers market, or occasionally bring racks and boxes over to table at a central location on campus.
